Orthopaedic and trauma surgery

Giving movement back

Trauma care and orthopaedics share one aim: restoring function, not merely repairing a bone.

Orthopaedics treats bones, joints, ligaments and tendons: fractures, sprains, osteoarthritis, conditions of the shoulder, knee and hip. Trauma care is its urgent side.

Surgery is only part of the treatment. Without rehabilitation started at the right moment, a well-placed prosthesis or a well-reduced fracture will not give back the function expected. Post-operative follow-up is therefore an integral part of care.

Frequently asked questions

Is an X-ray enough to make the diagnosis?

Often yes for bone, rarely for a ligament or cartilage. An MRI or CT scan is then requested; medical imaging is carried out on site.

When does rehabilitation begin?

It is prescribed at the follow-up consultation, sometimes within the first days after surgery. The timing and pace depend on the procedure performed.

Should I go to the emergency department after a fall?

Yes if there is deformity, an inability to bear weight or move, severe pain or numbness. The emergency department is open 24/7.
