The heart, followed over time
From preventing a risk factor to monitoring an established condition, cardiology follows the patient over the long term.
Cardiology treats diseases of the heart and blood vessels: high blood pressure, rhythm disorders, heart failure, coronary artery disease. The approach almost always begins the same way, with a conversation, a clinical examination, then the investigations that make it possible to watch the heart work.
The discipline rarely works alone. Medical imaging provides the diagnosis, cardiovascular surgery takes over when an intervention becomes necessary, and intensive care handles the monitoring of acute situations. It is this continuity, more than any single examination, that makes cardiological care good.

Frequently asked questions
How should I prepare for a cardiology consultation?
Bring your previous examinations (electrocardiograms, reports, laboratory results) along with a list of your current medication and doses. There is no need to fast unless you are told otherwise when booking.
Is echocardiography painful?
No. It is an ultrasound scan: a probe placed on the chest with gel, for twenty to thirty minutes. No radiation, no injection, no particular preparation.
When should I seek care immediately?
Chest pain that sets in, unusual breathlessness, fainting or prolonged palpitations are not matters for a scheduled appointment: they are emergencies. The emergency department is open 24/7.
